Tarot Fantasy Sun Card

The Sun symbolizes brilliance, light, and warmth. In many cultures throughout the world it was revered as the ultimate source of vitality and creation. To the ancient Egyptians, the sun was regarded as the most important god, known as “Amun-Ra” or simply “Ra”. These names stood for abundance, growth, and prosperity.

It was said that every day as the sun set Ra died in the west. As the sun rose the next morning, he was reborn in the east. To this day, the English word “radiance” begins with the root prefix “Ra”. The Christian prayer ending “Amen” owes its beginnings to the Egyptian “Amun”.

The sun was worshipped as both a giver and taker of life. If it shone too fiercely, people and plants would become parched with drought and the land turned to dry sand. Too little of this fiery disk in the sky often meant a failed crop or insufficient harvest.
We owe our calendar year largely to the procession of the sun. This splendorous solar entity was also heralded as a bringer of illumination and knowledge, carrying a spirit of self fulfillment and success.
Reversed: Lack of illumination and clarity, darkness, decay, low energy, ignorance and hidden knowledge.
